The outcome of the civil war canged the South in many different ways. First the major way it changed the south was the way it made money, THe south deppended on slaves to pick the cotton and then they would take said cotton and sell it. The entire economy of the south deppended on slaves and after the civil war the economy was in ruins.
So Columbus named the area “rich coast” or in Spanish Costa Rica. Thinking that it would be a rich jewel in Spain's Crown. But sadly, it turned out to be one of the poorest of Spain's colonies
