Puerto Rico is located on the continent of North America, in between the Car.ibbean Sea and the North Atlantic Ocean, east of the Dominican Republic and west of the Vir.gin Islands.

Bats are the only extant native terrestrial mammals in Puerto Rico. All other terrestrial mammals in the area were introduced by humans, and include species such as cats, goats, sheep, the small Indian mongoose, and escaped monkeys. Marine mammals include dolphins, manatees, and whales.

Because of the many interactions between the native Taino people and Spanish settlers, Puerto Rican culture is a blend of Taino, Spanish, and African cultures. Aspects of all three can be seen in modern-day Puerto Rico.
