From 1878 until 1920, the idea of women's suffrage was brought before Congress every year. In the meantime, women also campaigned for the vote in different states. During World War I, many women did jobs regularly done by men. Their contributions to the United States and the influence of Carrie Chapman Catt caused President Woodrow Wilson to finally support women's suffrage.
