The reaction of President Johnson to the Gulf of Tonkin incident did indeed show a monolithic view of Communism because he believed that Communism was dangerous.

What was the Gulf of Tonkin incident?

This was an event in 1964 when it was said that North Vietnamese navy boats attacked American naval destroyers in the Gulf of Tonkin.

The North Vietnamese were Communists and Johnson responded by increasing U.S. involvement in the Vietnam War.

This shows a rigid view of Communism because Johnson thought that it would be right to go after Communists in Vietnam because all Communists were dangerous.
