Three statements that are correct about the Pendleton Act are;

 • Most Gilded Age presidents supported its goals.
 • It required people to pass a test proving their competence.
 • It is an early example of government reform.

The Pendleton Act was passed in January 1883 when a young job seeker killed President James A. Garfield.

Prior to this time, jobs were given based on familiarity and friendship with people. It was called the "spoils system". This left a lot of deserving people jobless.

This Act ensured that candidates were given jobs based on merit. They were to take competitive exams from which the best candidates were chosen and employed.

It is a form of the reform movement and was pushed by President Chester A. Authur who succeeded Garfield. Presidents that succeeded Chester improved on the Pendleton Act.

aksik [14]
Personification- I'm not quite sure, but, "Is this a dagger which I see before me," appears to be personification. I could be wrong.
Apostrophe- None, that I know of.
Allusion- "I have thee not, and yet I see thee still."
Hyperbole- "The handle toward my hand? Come. let me clutch thee:--"

Which organizational structure can use a block method or a point-by-point method?
stepan [7]
D. Comparison/contrast

In a compare/contrast essay, you can choose to use a block method or go point by point. In a block method, you would have a whole section on your first thing and then a whole section on your second thing. In these sections, the differences and similarities would be evident. Or, you could go point by point and show how each thing is similar/different on each specific issue.
