While many latin american countries were colonized by christianity dominated countries, the arrival of spanish missionaries and other people with the goal of religious conversion left many latin american people practicing christianity

Most people in Latin America practice Christianity because of European colonization. Spain and Portugal largely colonized Latin America and as they expanded they also spread their religion: Roman Catholic. If people refused to convert, they would force them to switch, even going as far as to kill them for disobedience. The Europeans believed they were fulfilling God's wishes by forcefully spreading Christianity.
