An excerpt from chapter 23 of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn most clearly illustrates that the duke is someone who does not take responsibility for his actions and would rather blame others if something does not go well is “so the duke said these Arkansaw lunkheads couldn't come up to Shakespeare; what they wanted was low comedy—and maybe something rather worse than low comedy, he reckoned”. Like all satire of the camp meeting, Shakespeare's parody is another staple of humor used by Twain.

EXPLANATION

“Adventures of Huckleberry Finn” is one of the most famous novels in American literature. Adventures of Huckleberry Finn was written by Mark Twain, a great American writer. The novel tells the story of a boy, named Huck, who must grow up in a morally handicapped family and society.

Huck was kidnapped by his own father, who in this novel named Pap. He kidnaps Huck because he wants the $ 6000 that Huck has. Huck has the money from the treasure that he and Tom Sawyer found in the story of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. He had to fake his own death to escape from his father.

Huck finally managed to escape, find a canoe that he used to raft down the Mississippi river. On his way, he met Jim, Miss Watson’s slave. They together spent day after day rafting down the river.

lara [203]

The mood Shakespeare evokes through these lines is one of despair. He is in despair because he is calling out to a "deaf heaven." He knows his cries are useless because they will go unheard or unanswered. He is also feeling unlucky as a result of his fate, feeling as though he is not something more because that fate has held him back or beat him down.
