Poverty line is an imaginary line that is formed on the basis of minimum income required for basic necessities. A common method used to measure poverty is based on income or consumption levels. A person is considered poor if his or her income or consumption level falls below a given “minimum level” necessary to fulfill basic needs. While determining the poverty line in India, a minimum level of food requirement, clothing, footwear, fuel and light, educational and medical requirement, etc. are determined for subsistence. These physical quantities are multiplied by their prices in rupees. The resent formula for food requirements while estimating the poverty line is based on the desired calorie requirement. As per 2000 figures; a family of five which is earning less than Rs. 1,640 per month is considered to be living below the poverty line. This figure is Rs. 2,270 per month for the urban area. The expected calorie intake has been fixed at 2400 calories per person in rural areas and 2100 calories in urban areas. A person consuming less than this amount is considered to be living below the poverty line. The poverty line in the UAE is defined as an income of 80 dirham ($22) a day.

Kay [80]

The correct passage which best reflects common features of realistic fiction is:

From a window of an apartment house that upreared its form from amid squat, ignorant stables, there leaned a curious woman. Some laborers, unloading a scow at a dock at the river, paused for a moment and regarded the fight. The engineer of a passive tugboat hung lazily to a railing and watched. Over on the Island, a worm of yellow convicts came from the shadow of a building and crawled slowly along the river's bank.

MAVERICK [17]

hours before his speech to the nation on October 22, 1962, President Kennedy updates former President Dwight Eisenhower on the latest Cuba developments.

Kennedy had made sure that Eisenhower had been briefed regularly throughout the crisis, often by Director of Central Intelligence John McCone, who had been chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission in the Eisenhower administration.

As a leading figure in the Republican party, Eisenhower had criticized the Kennedy administration in sometimes harsh terms. In this call, Kennedy makes sure to get Eisenhower to say he would do the same thing under the circumstances.

Why does tubman results undergroud trips worth this risk involved why or why not?
Lynna [10]

Answer:

Harriet Tubman is perhaps the most well-known of all the Underground Railroad's “conductors.” During a ten-year span, she made 19 trips into the South and escorted over 300 slaves to freedom. And, as she once proudly pointed out to Frederick Douglass, in all of her journeys she “never lost a single passenger.”  Harriet Tubman, too, believed that all men and women are born free.  Hence, it was worth the risk each time she made a trip to the South to gather slaves.
