Aki has been struggling with severe test anxiety since entering college. On the night before an exam he has a hard time falling

asleep. He sometimes has nightmares about taking tests. On the morning of an exam, he has trouble eating and sometimes has an upset stomach. He has negative thoughts about the exam even before the test starts. When he enters the exam room he has physical symptoms like sweaty palms, rapid breathing, dizziness and nausea. During the exam, Aki is aware of any noises and is distracted by thoughts of the other students. What if they all perform better than he does? He worries that he is going to fail the test, and need to drop the class. He often says negative things to himself like "You know you can't do this." or "You're not any good at math", or "You're never going to succeed in life". He describes himself as feeling worthless.
