Abstract—It is widely accepted by both linguists and psycholinguists that our implicit linguistic knowledge consists of both abstract rules that enable speakers to construct sentences productively and exemplars that are represented in the form of unanalyzable chunks that are memorized, stored and accessed as wholes. There are two major perspectives towards the rules of language: generativist and emergentist.
