Answer:

A dictionary is a compilation of words ranging from letters A-Z. When reading or writing an article, deciphering profound words, phrases or sentences, using a dictionary could be great help. Primarily, its purpose is to give meanings to words. There are many advantages of using a dictionary. So, using a dictionary is important for students.

The first advantage of using a dictionary is pronunciation.  Furthermore, we can also listen to the pronunciation of the words. Through the aid of a dictionary, you can check out a word’s right utterance. For that, it will help you get the right pronunciation of words. For example, the pronunciation of the word “cat” is /kæt/.

The second advantage of using a dictionary is part of speech. It could inform you which part of speech does a certain word belong. Should “cat” be a verb, a noun, an adjective or a combination of these three? One more thing, it could also be a guide to choose a particular word use, for example, part of speech of the word “cat” in the sentence “I love cats.” is noun.

The third advantage of using a dictionary is spelling. Linguistically speaking, it is no doubt that a dictionary could help us know the proper spelling of words. In this connection, it will guide us in writing words, phrases, sentences and paragraphs.

Lastly, examples sentences are also provided. When we want to use the word and do not know where to put the word, we can look example sentences. For example, we should put the word ‘cat’ after the adjective in ‘the black cat is cute.’

However, searching words by using a dictionary takes a lot of time. Using a talking dictionary, words can be searched immediately. We can find some words in a few minute.

To sum up, a dictionary is great help for everyone, especially students who are learning a language and who are interested in language learning. It is also helpful in enriching our vocabulary. So, remember to bring a dictionary with us every time when we come to class.
