World War I was a result of alliances between many countries, tension from the scramble for Africa/imperialism, severe nationalism that officially started the war (Franz Ferdinand’s assassination) and advancements within military weapons that allowed countries to fight.

Countries had a more difficult time rebuilding following WW1, and the conditions in the trenches and the close quarters the men lived in made the spread of the disease easy. The sick soldiers went to medical tents. The doctors who didn't get sick returned home, bringing the virus with them.

Congress had no power to coin money, therefore each state developed its own currency. Congress was unable to regulate interstate and foreign commerce; some states refused to pay for goods they purchased from abroad. Congress was unable to impose taxes; it could only borrow money on credit.
