Substances only give someone a temporary high, before the affects wear off. Alcohol is only meant to be temporary and the affects fade. Whereas doing an activity, such as a craft of sport, might give someone a longer sense of contentment. Also, relationships can give someone a more permanent feeling of satisfaction.
