Vertical integration refers to expansion of business in a way that no outside entity or service is required in the entire process of manufacturing and distribution.

For instance – Tech Giant Apple has its own retails store, has its own brand and manufacturing facilities around the globe. Thus, they do not need an outsider for carrying out these activities.

Diverse opinions are necessary becuase if you have a small group of people who agree on all of the same things, then you won't get different perspectives and typically things will go unchanged if they don't think of the problem as something that affects them.
