In 1942, Adolf Hitler ordered his armies to capture the oil fields of the Caucasus and the city of Stalingrad, the Nazis spread out over the vast Soviet territory. As a result, his forces were unable to seize the oil fields and suffered enormous losses in the battle of Stalingrad.
He also did not realize how cold Russian winters are and was not prepared for there harsh climate.
He also did not have the tactical advantage of knowing the location and his soldiers were not trained to fight in snow and stormy weather constantly like the Russian soldiers were.
By doing that, Hitler expanded World War II. He would need <em>massive </em>amounts of German manpower and resources to fight all the battles he started.
