There were two events that worsened the relations between united states and Soviet union. Those events were:
- The future of Poland
United States wanted Poland to be a free and democratic country, while Soviet Union wanted them to be a part of Soviet Union
- Soviet Union invasion of Afghanistan, Which heavily undermined United States' foreign policy.
