of its language, style, literary elements, and themes. Be sure to incorporate into your rewrite at least three of the six qualities of modernist poetry listed below.

The Poem has to be "I wandered lonely as a cloud" by William Wordsworth.
● Capture the cynicism and disappointment many people felt toward outdated nineteenth-century ideas
● Focus on the complexities of modern life
● Highlight the alienation of the individual in the modern world
● Break with past literary traditions and styles
● Employ references to diverse cultures, belief systems, and histories
● Use experimental language and techniques, such as drawing a distinct line between the poet and the speaker and writing from multiple perspectives and in different voices

The rewrite of a romantic poem is as follows,

I stood coldly alone, like a World War I flying ace

Who cruises over the shells of bombed-out towns.

As the black fog cleared, I saw a building,

Ten thousand crumble cracking bricks;

Beside a forsaken hospital, over a glass-strewn street,

Sagging, depressed during Tefnut’s shower.

It was a brief explanation of the modernist rewrite of the first stanza of Wordsworth’s “I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud”:

In the first stanza of rewrite, It tried to drastically change the mood of the poem. I did so by first changing the opening simile, linking the speaker to a World War I flying ace looking down on an empty town devastated by war.

What is a Poem?

It is a collection of words that express an emotion or idea, sometimes with a specific rhythm.

Read the excerpt from Martin Luther King Jr.’s "The American Dream” speech.
velikii [3]

Answer: The true brotherhood of America, of respecting the separateness of others . . . and uniting in effort . . . has been so twisted and distorted.

Governor George Wallace was an American politician and 45th Governor of Alabama. He was famous for his opposition to desegregation and his support for Jim Crow positions.

His sentence "The true brotherhood of America, of respecting the separateness of others . . . and uniting in effort . . . has been so twisted and distorted" shows his political leanings. Wallace is arguing that the separation of different people (in this case black and white) needs to be respected, and that it should not be an obstacle for the unity of the country.

Martin Luther King Jr. would disagree with this position, as it clashes with his dream of all men of all races, nationalities and creeds living together as brothers.
