Answer:

The following year, when General Ulysses S. Grant was advancing toward Vicksburg, Miss., Farragut greatly aided him by passing the heavy defensive works at Port Hudson below the Red River and stopping Confederate traffic below that tributary. Vicksburg fell in July 1863, and the entire Mississippi River was soon in Federal control.

in the 1920s many small farmers lost their farms due to crop failures and debts what was an effect of the lost farm
nika2105 [10]

The agricultural economy of the 1920s experienced an ongoing depression. After expanding during the First War to sell food to Europe, there was now an overproduction as many counties returned to grow their own crops.

There was too much food on the market and farmers could not sell their products. The prices of food were falling and many farmers went into debt.

Between 1920 and 1930, one in four farms was sold and many farmers migrated to urban areas. This lead to the spreading of rural poverty ( one-fifth of the American population lived on the land). More than 600,000 farmers went bankrupt. The result of all this was severe agricultural depression with many of the previously prospering farms falling into decay and being sold or abandoned. Where farming was the main industry, like in the South, the already low wages became even lower and the farmers' situation worsened.

Picture 1: A black and white scene showing men on horseback and men standing in a field. Picture 2: An engraving of an owl in a
Crazy boy [7]

Answer:

Picture 1 is an example of a linocut. Picture 2 is an example of a wood engraving. Observations may vary, but could include the following: Picture 1 has a lot of dark values, bold lines, and non-detailed images. With picture 1, there is either black or white, and the values are created by the thickness of the lines. With picture 2, the values change based on the detail of the engraving and the amount of ink applied. Picture 2 includes a lot of details and is a realistic portrayal of the subject (owl). The subjects in both pictures are visible and definable. Picture on is of a bull ring, with Spanish matadors and picture 2 is of an owl in a tree. Neither picture uses color.

Pretend you are a soldier in the Continental Army. Write a letter to your parent about life in Valley Forge. The letter should b
LenKa [72]

Answer:

Dear Family,

The days here in Valley Forge are getting harder by the minute, we are running out of food, the weather is painfully freezing, we have an extremely limited supply of medicine. I don't know how much longer we are going to be able to make it. The only person keeping me sane right now is General Washington, he is so very loyal to his men. During the day most of us are huddling together in our very enclosed tents and/or log cabins. We usually try to eat about three meals a day but with the cold weather and other soldiers not being rational, we sometimes go days without eating. I can feel my stomach slowly eating away at itself. When we do eat, its usually pork, bread, cornmeal and if we're lucky, rum and/or whiskey. The cold weather and lack of positivity makes me feel depressed but the stress of war drowns it out. I do truly miss home, I would give anything to be back with my family. Hopefully I will see you all soon.
