Read the following prompt and type your response in the space provided.
Vladimir79 [104]
Ralph was chosen as the boys' leader. To help lead the boys and to make decisions based on what was best for the group. He lost control of the boys when the boys decided it wasn't fun to follow rules. Jack, who decided to not follow Ralphs orders, was having fun not following the rules.  The boys decided to go to Jack and become lawless and do what they pleased. An example of this is when stealing from the other group and killing Simon and Piggy. The theme of a society that falls apart if there aren't rules can follow any culture, any group or any situation. An example of a lawless society would be the people in the middle east. ISIS doesn't want to follow the rules and they fight against the good people who want to have a normal life. They are fighting for territory and kill people who don't believe in what they believe.

Patrick Henry’s “Give Me Liberty, or Give Me Death!” speech (1775)

Frederick Douglass’s address, “What to the Slave Is the Fourth of July?” (1852)

What is the speaker’s viewpoint? What is his claim? Patrick Henry’s "Give Me Liberty, or Give Me Death!"  viewpoint in the speech of (1775) at Second Virginia Convention,  was a phrase, idiomatically expressed to portray in grievances the displeasure of man's inhumanity to man. It was a set-phrase indicating enormous displeasure at any over-authoritarian policy or law over some perceived vulnerable people. Patrick Henry's claim on the Give Me Liberty speech  at the Second Virginia Convention was to implore his countrymen to declare war against the British colonists in their colonies.

What reasons does the speaker provide to support his viewpoint or claim? Patrick Henry urged fellow Virginians to support the Revolutionary War, saying “give me liberty or give me death!” that encouraged Virginia legislators to provide troops to the Revolutionary War effort, which eventually helped to create the Continental Army in less than three months after the declaration.

How valid are the speaker’s reasons for his claim? Use evidence from the text to support your answer. What evidence does the speaker provide to support his reasons? Patrick Henry's claim on Give Me Liberty speech  on the Second Virginia Convention on March 23, 1775, at St. John's Church in Richmond, Virginia was to implore his countrymen to declare war against the British. Henry points to the presence of British soldiers in the colonies, asserting that they're not there for the protection of the colonists. They're there to enforce British colonial rule.

Is the speaker’s evidence relevant and sufficient? Does the speaker use fallacious reasoning or logical fallacies? What counterclaims or alternate claims does the speaker address, and how does he respond to them? This entire reading was about  increasing support for the independence movement.

How effective is the speaker’s response to counterclaims or alternate claims? Use evidence from the text to support your answer. In his popular speech at the Virginia Convention, Patrick Henry responded to those delegates who argued that it was necessary to reach some kind of friendly compromise between Great Britain and its American colonies. All other means have been exhausted to secure an end to the ongoing political crisis. Just one option, and that's standing and fighting.

Write a one-paragraph evaluation of the speaker’s argument.

The paragraph has supporting evidence, however, it does not say how a parent's behavior influences their children's beliefs and value system. The reader does not know how parent's choices will affect the children.  The paragraph has a topic sentence, the first sentence, which tells the reader that the paragraph will talk about the choices parents have regarding their children's interests. The paragraph is focused and easy to understand. Finally, it also does a good job of maintaining the reader's attention.
