You can remember this by knowing that the "centi-" prefix means 100 (technically, 100ths). Just like you probably already know 100 cents in a dollar (USD) or 100 years in a century. Even the "cent" in percent means per hundred. There are 100 centimeters in a meter. A centimeter is about as wide as your little finger. A meter is close to a yard.
