A calorie is a measure of energy. Assume that there are 1000 calories of plants in a chamber. If grasshoppers (a plant eating in

sect) eat all of the plants and a bird eats all of the grasshoppers, how many calories did the bird actually absorb if only 10% of the energy is transferred between each level.

Only 10 calories did the bird actually absorb when there is a total of 1000 calories were stored in a plant chamber.

What is Calorie?

A calorie may be defined as a unit of energy that we get from food products and burn during a physical workout.

According to the 10% law given by Lindeman, if a plant chamber consists of 1000 cal., the amount of energy transferred to herbivores is 10% of 1000 which is 100 calories.

Similarly, the 10% of 100 cal., gets transferred to the next trophic level which is carnivores or secondary consumers. The 10% of 100 is 10 calories.

Therefore, only 10 calories did the bird actually absorb when there is a total of 1000 calories were stored in a plant chamber.

The answer is natural selection.

In natural selection, genotype variations that will increase the chance of survival and reproduction of some organism are preserved and will be inherited. Red and green colors of butterflies increased the chance of their survival and reproduction, so these traits will pass to the next generation.

An act committed by a skilled or professional user of computers, also named as hacker who secretly browses or steals private information from a company or individual's system therefore this whole process is known as "computer crime".

Image is one of the best source or evidence in the form of visual data with respect to computer crime. Because many details can be collected or fetched out just from visual figures or pictures. It can contain codes, relatable links or some factors which can be helpful for targeting culprit.

Select the five major mechanisms of antimicrobial resistance. Check All That Apply
Rudik [331]

Answer:

All the given statements are correct except b.

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) refers to the ability of a microorganism to grow in the presence of drug or a chemical that would normally limit its growth or kill it.

It makes it difficult for the existing drugs to eliminate the infection as they become less effective against the microbe.

There are five major mechanisms by which a microbe attains resistance against antimicrobial chemical or drug:

 1. Drug modification or inactivation: A microbial enzyme inactivates the antimicrobial agent. For example, few bacteria produce β-lactamases which provide multi-resistance against β-lactam antibiotics such as penicillin, cephalosporin etc.
 2. Alteration or modification of target site: An altered target site prevents the antimicrobial agent from binding to its target. For example, alteration of penicillin binding protein (PBP) in Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA).
 3. Alteration of metabolic pathway: The microbe uses an alternative pathway to circumvent the blocked pathway. For example, sulfonamides-resistant bacteria started using preformed folic acid in place of para-aminobenzoic acid (PABA).
 4. Decreased drug accumulation: Microbial efflux pumps remove the antimicrobial agent (before it could do any damage) by pumping it out of the cell.
 5. Decrease in cell permeability: The permeability of the microbial envelope to the antimicrobial agent is decreased
