A semi formal letter is required here because, it is a communication with someone that you have a working relationship with but not a very close one.

Besides the

  • Introduction
  • Body; and
  • Conclusion, the key parts of the letter that is reflective of the extent of it's formality is the salutation and closing.

In formal letters, you are to adhere strictly to "Dear Sir" or "Dear Ma". In this case, you have start with the principals name. E.g. Dear Mr. Hastrup.

The best closing for a semi-formal letter is "Best regard".
