In the story, "Chrysanthemums" we learn of a woman named Elisa who lived with her husband, Henry. Elisa had no child despite being married for a long time.

Also, her cordial and marital relationship with Henry was almost non-existent. All of these should have broken her, however, Elisa remained strong and beautiful just like the Chrysanthemums.
