The Abyssal plains makes up a majority of the ocean floor worldwide.

What is the Abyssal plains?

This refers to the flat seafloor area which is measured at an abyssal depth [10,000 to 20,000 feet]) that is generally adjacent to a continent.

These plains are formed from blanketing of uneven surface of oceanic crust by fine-grained sediments, mainly clay, silt etc.

Hence, the Abyssal plains makes up a majority of the ocean floor worldwide.

How is amplified warming different from natural warming
sladkih [1.3K]
The greenhouse effect is the rise in temperature that the Earth experiences because certain gases in the atmosphere (water vapor, carbon dioxide, nitrous oxide, and methane, for example) trap energy from the sun. Normal warming is mostly caused by natural gases.

What is the island in the atlantic off the northwestern coast of mainland europe?
RUDIKE [14]

Answer: British Isles

The British Isles are an archipelago (Great Britain and Ireland, and other smaller islands) located at the northwest of the coast of Europe. They are separated from the European continent by the North Sea to the east and by the English Channel to the south, while to the west and north they border the Atlantic Ocean.

However this was not always in this way. Millions of years ago this portion of land was a peninsula linked by a limestone mountainous ridge to mainland Europe. This is how, where the current Dover Strait is located, there was a rock formation that joint Great Britain and France.

It is estimated that it was at the end of the last Ice Age (this whole area was frozen and the sea level was far much lower than today) that this territory began to separate from the continent, a process that ended in the Mesolithic period, in the middle of the Stone Age, becoming the insular territory we know today.

In fact, the current Irish Sea and the North Sea were dry land that was submerged with the rise of sea level in the thaw.

The image shows sedimentary rock layers with index fossils and a fault.
svetlana [45]

The correct answer is - Layer 2 and layer 9 are the same relative age.

On this image we can see multiple layers that have been cut through and displaced by a fault. The layer 2 and the layer 9 despite not being at the same level, with level 2 being closer to the surface, while layer 9 deeper into the ground, we can still see signs that they actually have the same relative age.

We can notice that these two layers have the same relative age because of two things. The first thing is the index fossils, with both of these layers having the same fossils from the same geologic period. The second thing that gives us a clue is their composition which is pretty much identical, thus indicating of a same geological period.
