Answer:
A). Metaphors fail when they have been used so often that readers gain nothing new from them.
Explanation:
Metaphors are demonstrated as one of the most commonly employed literary devices that involve an implicit comparison between two distinct things sharing common characteristics. For example, she is the moon(girl and moon are completely distinct from each other but share the common characteristic of bringing light in the darkness).
As per the question, metaphor fails 'when they are employed so often that the readers gain nothing new from them.' Metaphors are primarily employed to offer an implicit or symbolic comparison that not only helps the reader transform their understanding but also artistically provides them 'an intrinsic pleasure and transcend the boundaries of literal meaning.' But if they are used so frequently that readers stop gaining that pleasure, experience, and understanding metaphors fail. Thus, option A is the correct answer.

Sir,
REQUEST FOR A FURNISHED LIBRARY IN ABA
It is with utmost expediency that I write to you to demand the opening of a state of the art library in Aba metropolis.
Aba is an ancient town in South Eastern Nigerian known for its zest for the acquisition of knowledge. Aba is home to three tertiary institutions of international repute. These institutions have contributed positively to local and international research.
Unfortunately, there is no public library that serves the residents of Aba metropolis. Aba residents have to travel to Owerri to access a furnished public library. This situation has a negative impact on the younger generation. It hinders the development of a reading culture among youths and teenagers.
Personally, I have been forced to undertake trips to nearby cities in order to access library services. This ought not to be so in the 21st century.
I call on you to use your good office to initiate the location of a well furnished public library in Aba metropolis.
Thanks in anticipation of your positive response.
Yours Faithfully,
Jude Chinonso Njoku
