An audience?

An audience is a group of people who participate in a show, literature, theatre, music, video games, or academics in any medium whatsoever.

Hence, knowing who you are writing for is important when starting the writing process. All writings have an audience, which is simply a particular reader or group of readers.

However, the main idea of the passage is acupressure and acupuncture are two Eastern therapies that are increasingly being used by Americans to ease the pain.
