Once his diseases started taking over, many people must have felt scared with so many dying. Also, they tried to teach him how to plant and wanted to trade. Columbus had plans to capture them and make them slaves (and some I'm pretty sure he did) so soon the natives realized that he was not very friendly.
Im pretty sure its a ballad and it is a great story about a man and his dog climbing a mountain.
