Assuming someone born today lives to the age of 100, how much wider will the atlantic ocean become during his or her lifetime?

Geography

Lady_Fox [76]2 years ago

The Atlantic ocean is widening at an estimated rate of 4cm a year.

So, if the ocean is widening 4 cm a year, then in 100 years it will be 4x100 = 400 cm wider.

In activities far below the crust, the tectonic plates are constantly moving, and with the exception of earthquakes, these movements are not actually felt. However, scientists have observed that the Atlantic Ocean is slowly expanding, moving the continents of North and South America further away from Europe and Africa.

What is the difference between weathering and erosion?
Ierofanga [76]
Weathering is the process that wears down rock formations. Mechanical weathering occurs when rocks are chipped away or broken such as if water seeps into a crack and freezes thereby expanding and breaking the rock apart. Chemical weathering can occur when the chemical composition of a rock or mineral is disrupted. For example, rainwater mixing with limestone leads to chemical weathering

Erosion, on the other hand, occurs when pieces or rock or sand are blown about or get caught in river currents and are brushed against other rocks (leading to mechanical weathering).

Which of the following describes favorable conditions for transverse dune formation?
julsineya [31]

Answer:

B) areas with steady prevailing winds and abundant sand.

Explanation:

This is the statement that best describes favorable conditions for transverse dune formation. Transverse dunes are long dunes that usually have a wavy ridge that runs across their length. These dunes are usually found parallel to each other, and require abundant sand to be formed. They also require steady prevailing winds that carry this large amount of sand in regular patterns.

If earth didn't spin on its axis but still revolved around the sun, how long would an earth day be?
Orlov [11]
If Earth was just revolving around the Sun, but was not spinning around it's own axis, than we would've had two big contrasts on the Earth, on the one side we would've had an endless day, and on the other side an endless night. This is due to the fact that one half of the Earth would always be directed towards the Sun, while the other will never be directed towards the Sun.The one part where there would be constant day will be very hot, while the other part with the constant night will be extremely cold.
