There are four main human types of blood group which are; A, AB, B and O.

- A person who has the blood group A has antigen a.

- A person who has blood group B has antigen b

-A person who has blood group AB has both antigens a and b

- A person who has blood group O has neither antigen a nor b

People who have blood group O are universal donors while people who have blood group AB are universal recipients. Due to the presence of antigens and antibodies, blood can only be donated by compatible donor types.
