Directions: read the passage, and answer the question that follows. did the cow do it? on october 8, 1871, a fire raged through

chicago, illinois. the fire started at around 9 p m near the home of catherine and patrick o leary. within hours, the fire was completely out of control. mills, factories, office buildings, and homes quickly burned. thankfully, the fire began to subside on the morning of october 10, and fears that it might start again ended when the skies opened up and steady, soaking rains began to fall. however, the fire had destroyed an extensive area. about 300 people were killed. nearly 100,000 people were made homeless, and there was more than 200 million dollars in property damage. how did the fire begin? according to legend, a cow in the o leary barn kicked over a kerosene lantern, and the hay on the floor caught fire. however, many people are skeptical about the story because there is almost no proof of what actually happened. in late 1871, the board of police and fire commissioners investigated the fire, and more than 1,100 pages of written testimony were taken. however, the cause of the fire was never determined. even so, the legend of the o leary cow lives on. write a summary of the passage. remember, a summary should be much shorter than the passage. try to write between 2-3 sentences.

No, the cow didn't do it. There was a fire outbreak where lives and properties were lost in October 1871. Despite several speculations and investigations as to the cause of the fire, nothing substantial was found. Finally, the legend of the fire lives on but without the knowledge of the cause.

According to the information in the text, it can be inferred that there is not enough evidence to prove the guilt of the cow.

How to summarize this fragment in three sentences?

To summarize this excerpt in three sentences we need to take the most important information and create three sentences to inform readers about the story.

 • In 1891, a fire started in Chicago Illinois that lasted about two days and caused great damage and left hundreds dead.
 • One of the hypotheses about the origin of the fire blames a cow for kicking a kerosene lamp and it set the hay in the barn on fire.
 • Despite the large amount of information and testimonies obtained by the police, it has not been possible to establish who was responsible for the origin of the fire, giving rise to the legend of the cow.

Several people have helped me in so many ways.
vesna_86 [32]

Answer:

The correct answer is A. simple.

Explanation:

The sentence Several people have helped me in so many ways is a simple sentence because it has only one predicate (=verb) "have helped." This means that it consists of one independent sentence/clause.

A simple sentence always has one predicate; a compound sentence has two simple sentences; a complex sentence has one independent sentence and at least one dependent one; a compound-complex sentence contains at least two independent clauses and at least two dependent ones.
