The Federal Reserve is simply the United States Central bank. This federal reserve is in charge of overseeing all American banks and as such are the only ones allowed to issue United States currency.

The main job of the Federal reserves is to conduct monetary policies for the American government which means the steps the central bank of the U.S government will take in order to regulate the nation’s money supply. Their duty also includes maintaining an effective and efficient payment system.

The Federal is also best known for setting short-term interest rates. It does so by raising or lowering its target for the federal funds rate, which is the rate banks charge other banks to lend money.
