On November 4, 1979, Iranian students seized the embassy and imprisoned more than 50 Americans, meandering from the Chargé d'Affaires to the most junior associates of the staff, as hostages. The Iranians maintained the American diplomat hostage for 444 days. When the Shah came to America for cancer treatment in October, the Ayatollah prompted Iranian militants to strike the U.S. On November 4, the American Embassy in Tehran existed overrun and its workers took captive. The hostage crisis contained began.

The Iranian hostage crisis concluded after negotiations carried out throughout late 1980 and early 1981, with Algerian diplomats as middlemen throughout the method. The Iranian demands centered largely on terminating frozen Iranian assets and lifting the trade embargo. The Iran hostages — who dealt with physical and psychological suffering, including representatives of solitary confinement and mock execution — have even had to fight for restitution since they were released because of an arrangement that banned them from pursuing injuries for their imprisonment.
