All loose Greek men were allowed to participate, from farmhands to royal heirs, despite the fact that the majority of Olympians were squaddies.

Throughout the authentic Olympic games in historical Greece, champions were not awarded gold, silver, and bronze medals as they're these days. rather, historic Olympic victors were awarded an olive branch twisted into a circle to shape a crown.

At historic Greek sports activities fairs, it was the custom to present ribbons to prevailing athletes. Later, at the awards ceremony, the athlete obtained a wreath of leaves inclusive of olive, laurel or wild celery leaves, depending on the competition. The identity of the athlete and the event he received are not regarded.
