(AP US HISTORY) I just need help with the question portion, I don't see the connection between the article (the first one) and the question given;
Hernán Cortés was one of the many Spanish explorers who would follow in Columbus's wake. He lived in the West Indies for over a decade before violating orders and invading what would become Mexico. Another controversial figure, Cortés is as much remembered for his ruthlessness as for his conquering of the Aztec capital, Tenochtitlán. He wrote letters to King Charles V to detail and justify his actions.

For this assignment, you will select an excerpt of one of these letters to analyze. Note that, like the Columbus journal, this source is a translation. It also reflects odd spellings typical for the time of its creation. The city he refers to is Tenochtitlán. You will annotate the document using the HAP-P process you saw in the lesson. It should be noted that Montezuma was one of the last Aztec emperors and uder his rule, the Aztec empire were at their best conquering other tribes as well as expanding their territories.

During the reign, the Aztec Empire reached its greatest size and through warfare, Moctezuma was able to expand the territory as far as south of the Xoconosco in Chiapas and Isthmus of Tehuantepec. He also incorporated the people of Zapotec and Yopi into the empire. However, he allowed the Spanish to conquer them due to his religious superstition.
