The direct method only takes the cash transactions into account and produces the cash flow from operations. The cash flow indirect method makes sure to automatically convert the net income in terms of cash flow.

A major advantage of the indirect method of cash flows is that the method provides a reconciliation between net income and cash flows. The indirect method also helps financial-statement users better understand different linkages among financial statements and is a simple way of preparing the statement of cash flows.

Which is better the direct or indirect method of cash flows statement?

Direct cash flow statement is broadly accurate as it does not rely on adjustments and hence it takes less to time prepare cash flows statements. The indirect cash flow method cannot be regarded as accurate as it accounts for adjustments and it generally requires more time in preparation.

How do you tell if a company uses direct or indirect method?

While both are ways of calculating your net cash flow from operating activities, the main distinction is the starting point and types of calculations each uses. The indirect method begins with your net income. Alternatively, the direct method begins with the cash amounts received and paid out by your business.

Last year, Johnson Mills had annual revenue of $37,800, cost of goods sold of $23,200, and administrative expenses of $6,300. Th
fenix001 [56]

Answer:

Depreciation expense = 2,900

Explanation:

Our goal would be to construct the formula where depreciation expense is and then increase deepth until find something we can work:

$$Revenue - Expenses = Net Income

Expanding expenses we find depreciation expense

$$Revenue - COGS - Admin Expense - Dep Expense = Income Before Taxes

Here we don't Know Income Before taxes so we have to work that first

$$Income Before Taxes x (1-tax rate) = Net Income

Here we don't Know Net Income taxes so we have to work that first

$$Net Income - Dividends = change in Retained Earnings

Here we got the other component of the formula, so it is possible to solve for net income and from there achieve the answer

Net income = 2,810 + 700 = 3,510

Income before taxes = 3,510/0.65 = 5,400

37,800 - 23,200 - 6,300 - dep expense = 5,400

dep expense = 2,900

\ $Net income = 2,810 + 700 = 3,510 \\Income before taxes = 3,510/0.65 = 5,400\\37,800 - 23,200 - 6,300 - dep expense = 5,400\\dep expense = 2,900

Pottery Unlimited has two product lines: cups and pitchers. Income statement data for the most recent year follow:
HACTEHA [7]

Answer:

- ($51,306)

Explanation:

Given that,

Loss of Contribution = $75,000

Fixed costs will be eliminated by dropping the CUP line = $23,694

Net loss on dropping cup line:

= Loss of contribution - Gain on fixed costs on dropping cup line

= $75,000 - $23,694

= - ($51,306)

Therefore, the net effect on dropping the cup line on net income is $(51,606).
