The course of Soviet history was dramatically altered by Nikita Khrushchev's policies and initiatives, which led to thawing relations with the West and a loosening of repressive home policies. By adopting a policy of peaceful coexistence toward the West, Khrushchev facilitated the signature of the Nuclear Test-Ban Treaty in 1963. His own diplomacy was sometimes undermined by the fact that he might be quirky and outspoken. To one point in his speech at the United Nations, Nikita Khrushchev banged his shoe the the desk to drive home a point. Such actions hurt Russia's reputation abroad and bolstered Western stereotypes of oafish, peasant behavior on the part of Soviet authorities. Sometimes Khrushchev would make casual comments that would spark worldwide discontent.
The definition of a nomad is a person or group of people without a designated home who roam around in search of food and pasture land. A person who moves from place to place without having a permanent home is an example of a nomad.
