The Old Lady Gray’s “curse” was that Sophie will look and also behave like a 90 year old lady.

Sophie Hatter is a young lady who was said to have been cast under a spell casted by the Old  lady who wad known to be the Witch of the Waste.

Sophie  always  was not confident enough but in the end, she was said to have broke her curse and had a lot of confidence by going on to achieve or get adventures with Howl.

Note  therefore, that she was cursed with old age, had the appearance of an old lady that  has no confidence.
