After reading, we can see the word "lexicographer" is used with a positive connotation in the first passage, but with a negative connotation in the second one.

What is connotation?

Connotation is the meaning a word has depending on the emotional context surrounding its use. The same word can have a positive or a negative connotation depending on the emotions expressed in the general context.

In the first passage that we are analyzing here, the word "lexicographer" has a positive connotation. Here, the author describes a lexicographer as someone who is diligent, careful, and who can accomplish detailed work. However, that is not the case in the second passage.

In the second passage, the word "lexicographer" takes on a negative connotation. Here, the author implies that a lexicographer is not as skilled as a poet, and that the latter is better than the former.

Identify two sides of an argument
Paladinen [302]

Answer:

Agree about the issue or be against it and discuss.

Explanation:

When writing down an argumentative writing, you may write down as many current issues that you can think of, even if you have not yet formed strong opinions about them. Just make sure that they are issues--matters open to discussion and debate. Arguments are not one-sided, as much as we might sometimes wish they were. If they were only made up of one side, it would be so much easier to win. But such is life, and facing different perspectives from your own is a part of an argument; even if you feel other perspectives are harmful and perpetuate hateful ideals that you cannot even try to understand on a personal level.

You can hope that everyone will come to see things the way you do, but until then, give them a hard time by proving that yo have got the knowledge to back yourself up and rid them of any leverage they might have been prepared to place on your assumed ignorance.

Answers:

 1. The lines suggest a feeling of calm, of being transfixed by the light dropping through the tree branches. The poet creates this feeling first with the setting, “Under the trees.” Then, the phrase “a green/latticework of branches” compares the broken pattern of light to the crossed patterns of tree branches. This suggests a peaceful setting. He finishes the stanza with the image of the light as“drifting down like clean/white sand.
 2. The /s/ sounds in “cicada sends/ its sawing song” suggest the repetitious, raspy noise of a cicada itself.
 3. Yes, the poem expresses an appreciation for how light enhances the beauty of sights and sounds in nature.
