The german elite unanimously elect Frederick Barbarossa as emperor in 1152 because they thought he would bring peace.

The most famous and influential ruler of the Holy Roman Empire during the Middle Ages was Frederick Barbarossa. His reign as Holy Roman Emperor lasted from 1155 to his death in 1190. Fredrick was a capable administrator, a superior military leader, and a wise statesman.

Frederick Barbarossa made an effort to carry on the imperial strategy of the Saxon and Salian dynasties. His state continued to be built upon the noble, high noble, and most importantly the recently established status of the imperial servants.

Because they believed he would bring peace, the german elite unanimously chose Frederick Barbarossa to be the new emperor in 1152.
