The purpose of an experiment is to study whether or not a treatment causes a change in the response.

"Deliberately imposing some treatment on individuals to measure their responses. ‐ When our goal is to understand cause and effect, experiments are the only source of fully convincing data" . The validity of a experiment is directly affected by its construction and execution.

A factor of an experiment is a controlled independent variable; a variable whose levels are set by the experimenter. This is different from observational study "which involves collecting and analyzing data without changing existing conditions."

Thus experiment is the correct answer.

goldfiish [28.3K]

Question 1

The correct answer is: "The researchers administered a questionnaire to obtain their data without trying to influence an explanatory variable of the study".

An observational study is one in which the researcher observes the effect of a variable without manipulating the conditions that surround the exposure or the subjects who are exposed to it. In this example, he simply hands out questionaires to the 353 individuals that compose the sample drawn from the population of interest: 12-year old teenagers.

Question 2

The correct answer is: "a cohort study".

The researcher is interested on a population group where all the components share a common characteristic (12-year old) and therefore they all belong to the same cohort. Subsequenly, he evaluates the differences between the ones who have been exposed to the explanatory variable (having a video console in the bedroom) and those who have not.

EastWind [94]

Answer:

Symptoms of excessive stress include all of the following EXCEPT C. increased energy level.

Explanation:

As a matter of fact, stress has the opposite effect. Low energy levels and fatigue are associated with prolonged stress. One of the reasons is the fact that stress leads to disruption in one's sleep, causing insomnia, which in its turn causes a decrease in energy levels. It has been found that increased levels of stress are associated with fatigue in a study of over 2,000 people.
