mores: A group of moral standards or traditions that are developed from widely accepted behaviors. Mores come from a society's customs and traditions rather than its codified laws. What is morally seen as acceptable or objectionable in a certain culture is determined by mores.

A norm can be thought of as a detailed instruction manual outlining what constitutes acceptable and proper behavior in given circumstances. A more is a morally sanctioned norm of some sort. The strongest social norms are mores, which are connected to a society's fundamental moral standards. They advise us to follow specific guidelines, such as showing our parents and instructors the respect they deserve.
