Alpha and beta adrenergic receptors (1) are sensitive to epinephrine and norepinephrine, (2) have several subclasses, and (3) mediate response to the sympathetic nervous system.

Adrenergic receptors belong to the class of G-protein coupled receptors that get activated by ligands like epinephrine and norepinephrine (catecholamines). They are involved in generating the flight-or-fight response by the catecholamines.

Sympathetic nervous system belongs to the autonomous nervous system and provides the signals for generating the  flight-or-fight response. It gets activated by the hypothalamus region of the brain. It comes into action when a person if generally in danger or during excitement.
