Amfac Company manufactures a single product. The company keeps careful records of manufacturing activities from which the follow

ing information has been extracted: The Company's manufacturing overhead cost consists of both variable and fixed cost elements. To have data available for planning, management wants to determine how much of the overhead cost is variable with units produced and how much of it is fixed per month.
(b) Using the high-low method, estimate a cost formula for manufacturing overhead. Express the variable portion of the formula in terms of a variable rate per unit of product.

Manufacturing overhead cost: let us prepare a schedule of the cost of goods manufactured to determine the manufacturing overhead cost added to production.

Manufacturing overhead cost for march:

Schedule of cost goods manufactured

Beginning balance in works in process-35000

Plus current manufacturing costs:

Direct material (5600 units x $8)44,800

Direct labor ( 5600 * $10) 56,000

Manufacturing overhead (288200-44800-56000) 1,87,400

Total (268200+55000-35000)2,88,200

Less ending balance in works in process -55,000

Cost of goods manufactured 2,68,200

Manufacturing overhead cost for June:

Schedule of cost goods manufactured

Beginning balance in works in process 27000

Plus current manufacturing costs:

Direct material (10200 units * $8) 81,600

Direct labor ( 10200 * $10)1,02,000

Manufacturing overhead (394000-81600-102000) 2,10,400

Total (403000+18000-27000) 3,94,000

Less ending balance in works in process -18,000

Cost of goods manufactured 4,03,000

High-low method: The cost equation such as variable cost and fixed cost can be calculated using the high-low method as follows;

Variable cost per unit = (Highest cost - lowest cost) /( highest level of activity - lowest level of activity)

Variable cost per unit =( 210400 - 187400) / (10200 - 5600 )= 23000 / 4600

Variable cost per unit = $5

Total variable cost at lowest activity = 5 * 5600

Total variable cost= 28000

Fixed cost = Total cost - variable cost = 187400 - 28000 = $159400

Formula

Total overhead cost = 159400 + ( 5 * number of units produced).

Answer c)  The letter x is best described as observed customer visit for a given month.

Answer d)  The estimated cost for 370 customer visits is

Y = a + bx

a =$ 687.65 b = $ 7.59 x = 370 customer visits

Y = $ 687.65 + ($ 7.59 * 370 customer visit) = $ 687.65 + $ 2,808.3  = $ 3,495.95

This is often referred to as the clinical approach. The clinical approach is also known as the threshold approach to clinical decision making. This approach combines rational and quantitative information with a general approach to decision making. In this situation, say you were hiring a new employee, a person using the clinical approach would look at their resume in how they match up with numbers and on paper to the candidate their looking for but also who they are as a person in a general sense.

The costs per equivalent units (Total Costs / Equivalent units) is $1.57, and for conversion is $0.98.

What is equivalent units of production ?

  • equivalent units of product are a conception used to understand how important plutocrat incompletely completed products are worth to a company.
  • They're useful for process going , which is the analysis of plutocrat inflow within the manufacturing process.
  • Equivalent units of product( EUP) is the quantum or number in units wherein total costs applicable will be divided to determine the applicable cost of goods vended and ending supplies.
  • This represents the product of a process in terms of equivalent units. In other words, it means converting the uncompleted product into its fellow of completed units. Numerous particulars are in nonstop product, so without some way to calculate original units, it would be delicate to determine how important plutocrat was tied up in product costs. Deficient work must be reckoned for on a regular base so that a value can be placed on the deficient work.

Here,

Units transferred to the next production department = 286,000(two eight six, zero zero zero)

Work in process inventory, May 31 (60,000 (40% for Materials, 20% for Conversion)) = 24,000(material),  12,000(conversion)

Equivalent units = 310,000(material),  298,000(conversion)

Cost in work in process inventory, May 1 = 62,400(material),  19,000(conversion)

Cost added during May = $424,300(material),  $273,040(conversion)

Total Costs = $486,700(material),  $292,040(conversion

Hence,  The costs per equivalent units (Total Costs / Equivalent units) is $1.57, and for conversion is $0.98.
