In a step-down transformer, the output current is greater than the input current.

Transformers are classified into two parts by their function, which is either step up or step down. In step-up transformers the voltage of the incoming current is increased, while in step-down transformers the incoming current's voltage is decreased.

Step-down transformer is a device that transfers an alternating current from one circuit to one or more other circuits with a decrease of voltage. We can get the desired output voltage easily without loss of much power and they are less expensive and more reliable. It's three types are - single phase, center phase, multi tapped step down transformers.
