Answer:

Hope it helps:)

Explanation:

The river is a traditional metaphor for time that continuously moves yet simultaneously remains timeless and for change that is also permanence. The father's action thus symbolizes the human need to transcend time by remaining in one place as the river flows by.

Answer:

I think the Third bank of the River symbolizes a different, somewhat ignored path where miracles lie beyond its depths that no one pays attention to because it's an "odd one out". But that's just my interpretation.

What odd behavior does the Reverend Dimmesdale display in his speech to Hester on the scaffold
Monica [59]

Answer:

Dimmesdale defends and praises Hester in his speech, which would be very strange behavior for a reverend like him.

Explanation:

Hester has an illegitimate daughter and refuses to say who the child's father is. As she lives in a Puritan society where patriarchy and conservatism reigns, she suffers prejudice and insults from the whole society. However, Reverend Dimmesdale (a cleric who should abolish Hester's sin) gives a speech in favor of Hester, where he praises her and reinforces her qualities. This is very strange behavior, which made the whole community suspicious.
