  1. Established by Article I of the Constitution, the Legislative Branch consists of the House of Representatives and the Senate, which together form the United States Congress.
  2. The business of Parliament takes place in two Houses: the House of Commons and the House of Lords. Their work is similar: making laws (legislation), checking the work of the government (scrutiny), and debating current issues.
  3. There are a total of 535 Members of Congress. 100 serve in the U.S. Senate and 435 serve in the U.S. House of Representatives.
    The House of Commons is an elected body consisting of 650 members known as members of Parliament (MPs).
    The number of members in the House of Lords is not fixed. Currently, it has 757 sitting members.
