Before moving on to heaven, everyman must finish his book of reckoning, and one of the topics the play addresses is how people will be judged after they have passed away. God is enraged that people are only interested in material wealth and riches while on earth, ignoring the greater judgement that will soon arrive. This includes, but is not limited to, Everyman's own judgement, or his capacity to comprehend his life, which grows gradually more and more enlightened as he travels towards his heavenly reward.
Everyman stands in for all of humanity. The character of Everyman implies that the average English individual at the time was egotistical. He is kind and stands every time for humanity
