Sociological theories such as functionalist theory and conflict theory help to explain complex human behaviors, social phenomena, and social structure.

functionalist theory ;

  • Structural functionalists might look at how values and norms shape societal notions of success in the workforce, and how these established values and norms reinforce the division of labor as well as gender inequality
  • Functionalist suggest that gender inequalities exist as an efficient way to create a division of labor, or a social system in which a particular segment of the population is clearly responsible for certain acts of labor and another segment is clearly responsible for other labor acts (Giddens, 2001)
  • In this view point gender inequality maintain overall social stability, balance, and equilibrium in pre-industrial society as well as contemporary society.

conflict theory ;

  • According to conflict theory, society is a struggle for dominance among social groups (like women versus men) that compete for scarce resources
  • The Conflict Perspective Where the functionalist see stability and consensus, conflict sociologist see a social world in continual struggle
  • Conflict theory explains that gender inequality came to exist because the men are trying to maintain power and privilege at the cost of the women’s benefit

Overall, your experience of school is  <u>"a major part of your own socialization."</u>

Socialization is a deep rooted process during which we find out about social desires and how to interface with other individuals. Almost the majority of the conduct that we consider to be 'human instinct' is really learned through socialization. What's more, it is during socialization that we figure out how to walk, talk, and feed ourselves, about conduct standards that assistance us fit in to our general public, thus considerably more.

Socialization happens for the duration of our life, yet probably the most imperative socialization happens in adolescence.
