Shays’ Rebellion was a series of violent attacks on courthouses and other government properties in Massachusetts that began in 1786 and led to a full-blown military confrontation in 1787. If something is wrong with foreign policy, it is often because something is wrong with domestic policy.

The leadership of a country is supposed to serve its economic and security interests, advance people's well-being, and respond to their aspirations for advancement. These goals are met through a coordinated combination of domestic and foreign policies. A strong domestic front serves as the foundation for international success, while poor domestic policies undermine foreign policy. If something is wrong with foreign policy, it is often because something is wrong with domestic policy. And this is due in large part to the policy's context, which includes the country's political system, social structure, power balances, and the relationship between people's interests and those of the ruling elite.
