The most important impact Hernando de Soto impact American Indians in Georgia and throughout the southeastern area of north America was disease.

Spanish explorer and conquistador Hernando de Soto participated in trips to Nicaragua and the Yucatan Peninsula. The exploration of North America by Hernando de Soto is what made him most famous. He traveled through what is now the southeast of the United States with 600 men. The majority of this area was initially explored by Europeans. The Spanish King tasked De Soto with discovering and colonizing La Florida.

However, it turned out that sickness had the greatest impact on the local people in de Soto. The aboriginal tribes lacked any protection against European diseases since they had never interacted with Europeans. They contracted smallpox, which turned out to be the worst of their diseases.
